VAG

Deadline looming for this year’s Bath Society of Artists exhibition. Saturday May 8th I’ll be queuing at the VAG (unfortunate acronym) with my contribution for the 2010 exhibition. Barriers to overcome are...

1) there is no ceramics category, so whatever I enter needs to come under the heading of sculpture

2) I’m not allowed to make anything in the studio this year. £120 studio fees do not cover the use of the studio.

But I’m going to enter something!

Last year I wasn’t sure about entering. Not sure I had anything sculptural, anything worth £100 (minimum sale price), and struggled to name any of my pieces. Eventually queued in my lunch break with this thrown piece…

Called it Form. All seven pieces needed an individual label. Had lost one piece between work and the VAG (later found on office floor), and one rolled down the marble stairs at the VAG and smashed while I was labelling. That made five. Bit hysterical once it was all handed in. Delighted that it was accepted, and thrilled when it was displayed in the exhibition…

Here are some men with big necklaces posing for a photo next to it...

It was purchased…by a family member, but that still counts. Doesn’t it?
