Jug of the Month - July

Jug of the Month (I’m humming my Emmerdale Farm ish theme tune.)

Happy Birthday to me. J and A bought me a beautiful Linda Bloomfield jug. They went for a tall thin jug because they believe this has to be the way forward for my collection. My shelves (slip cast jugs) and fireplace (thrown jugs – I am not ashamed of my display system) are overflowing so a small base and plenty of height is what is required. The only way is up. Baby.

The jug is very plain and elegant, with a satin matt glaze.

I bought a Linda Bloomfield jug about six years ago when Christmas shopping and accidentally ended up keeping it. This jug has no handle, but dimples for gripping.

They look very animated as a pair, and are going to be very happy together. Although we all know how much better things look in threes…

Or fours...

Or mores...

Her teapots are amazing because the throwing lines show you how their journey on the wheel began and you can piece together the story of how they were made.

Some of Linda Bloomfield’s work wears lovely knitted covers by Ruth Cross.

Linda’s CV on her website reveals that she studied at Warwick University from 1983-1990 completing a BSc in Engineering Science and a PhD in Materials Science. I started my English degree at Warwick the year after she left. She was President of Warwick University Pottery Society from 1984-6. I don't remember any ceramics facilities at Warwick - probably just not on my radar at the time. I don't think I was a member of any societies. Once helped out backstage during a WUDS production (Warwick University Drama Society) and handed props to Hannah Waterman (daughter of Dennis) and Bob Cryer (son of Barry, not the Sgt from the Bill.)
